Clinark Album Relase Party Bermuda Oct 2008
Fans celebrate Clinark Dill's debut album -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By René Hill -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Outstanding performance: Troy Anthony at Snorkel Park on Saturday. Photo: Mark Tatem Reggae lovers turned out in support of local artist Clinark Dill as he celebrated the launch of his first album, 'Journey to Foreign'. Backing the London-based singer on the project were a host of artists including Morgan Heritage's Gramps and Peter Morgan, Irie Love, Maxi Priest, Luciano, Fantan Mojah, Kofi, Troy Anthony and Brinsley Forde formerly of Aswad, many of whom were in attendance at Saturday's launch party at Snorkel Park. The event began at 5.30 p.m. - later than originally advertised. Its 8 p.m. finish gave people just enough time to race down the road to take in the last night of the Bermuda Music Festival and its headliner Alicia Keys. Before that point however, Clinark serenaded the intimate crowd of 100 with strong vibes. Bermudian gospel reggae artist Troy Anthony sang a duet with Clinark, and stepping up in support was Fyah Kid, Buck Wild and Ras Yohannes. The beautiful Hawaiian/Jamaican songstress Irie Love flew in to perform for the event and to help Clinark celebrate his landmark achievement in the history of Bermuda's musical heritage. Said Clinark: "I am really glad that I could manage to get this show together despite the timing. It was the only time that Gramps, Peter and Irie Love could make it this year as they have a heavy touring schedule. "'Life in the Ghetto', which is a collaboration with them, is the lead song on the album. We also have a video of the track on release now, it's currently on Fresh TV and will be in general circulation shortly." The show started with performances by Ras Yohannes, Buck Wild and Fyah Kid. Then followed someone I believe to be the hottest talent around, Troy Anthony, who gave an outstanding performance before introducing Clinark to the eager crowd. Saturday's performance marked the first time since Cup Match 2007 that Clinark performed on-Island. With horns blazing and chanting, the artist mesmerised the crowds with his earlier hits 'Dem Come Remix', 'Beautiful Island', 'Angel Eyes' and 'Inspiration Prayer'. The crowds were enthusiastic about his collaborations with Troy Anthony on 'Sign of the Times' and with Irie Love on 'It's True', a soothing reggae gospel hit. Gramps and Peter held Clinark up to the plate when they gave us 'Life in the Ghetto'. The audience also responded well to DJ Magic of Souljah One Sound, who pulled up the track three times to the delight of eager fans. At the end of the evening, Clinark was surrounded by fans and old and new friends congratulating him on his achievements and requesting signed CDs. Some footage of the launch party event is already available on YouTube. 'Sign of the Times', a video featuring Clinark and Troy Anthony will be filmed in Bermuda this week. The DVD of 'Life in the Ghetto" – which features the Morgan brothers – is being played on Fresh TV and is due to be circulated worldwide. For more information, or to listen to his tunes, visit www.clinark.com, www.myspace.com/clinarkmusic or www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBLo3P6MxcM.
