retro-electro niceness

Another baroquedub rerelease, this time with a track off the third release in the Versions Excursions digital 7inches series. With a nod to the retro-electro scene which has been re-claiming the 80's as period not entirely devoid of musical brilliance, this reworking of Drum Song's full of Slinky analogue gurgles and crisp FM tones, machine-like rhythms and arpeggios... all of which (Kraftwerk-like) somehow manage to transcend their rigid step-sequenced roots.

baroquedub mixtape 24

This month's baroquedub mixtape marks a very special two year anniversary. Who'd have thought it when these monthly podcasts started off way back in 2006? To mark the occasion, I've prepared an extended mix of early dancehall and more modern digital reggae, cramming in many classics and hard to find rarities. A special mention goes to Jah Billah for letting me have a copy of his Locobrigida remix and to Rockamovya - a collective of five musicians spanning the roots of Jamaican reggae and American jazz and who's track 'Warrior Sound' (off their new album) is destined to be the soundtrack to my summer.

The second volume in baroquedub's Versions Excursions series of digital 7inches goes deep and dark with this pair of dubby roots outings. Once again classic reggae riddims are explored to the far edges of electronica, first tripping out on a wash of Dubolitious delayed feedback then delving into Massive Attack territory with a moody invocation of the classic 'Cuss Cuss'.

New baroquedub mixtape - ReggaeDubwise showcase

It's with great pleasure that I can finally announce the release of the latest baroquedub mixtape - a very special collection of dub inflected music which this month showcases some of my favourite ReggaeDubwise artists: (in order of appearance) Don Fe, DUBSYNATICX, Lackatee, Zacheous Jackson, Version Big-Fi, Earlywrm and Manudub.

My thanks and gratitude for their music and inspiration and my apologies to anyone I've missed out - there just aren't enough hours in the day to listen to all of the great music on this site. Finally, a very big shoutout to Irish Moss for the enormous contribution he's made to the online reggae community, through all his hard work and dedication. Much respect.

Originally released in 2006 with the kind permission of dubroom.org volume 1 in a continuing series of digital-7inch Version Excursions is now available for the first time on reggaedubwise.

For you listening pleasure baroquedub is very proud to present Bad Bwoi Sound (feat. Ranking Joe) and a remix of Sure Dread's Redemption (Baroque Dub Champion Version) feat. Barry Brown.

There's no sell by date on quality

Following the demise of the Versionist back catalogue, I've started re uploading some of the highlights from past baroquedub releases. First off is the opening track on The Burden of Dreams EP - the first ever release on baroquedub's own netlabel from way back in 2006. Showing all the trademark chilled out reggae electronica of later releases 'Wearing Nothing But Attitude' is a classic piece of swaggering, laid back digidub. Enjoy!
